Last night at 10:45 pm, I did something I had never done before. I got a sleeping Sera from her crib and went to the basement. Jim and Shadow tagged along, too. We weren't worried about a tornado, but the weather forecaster showed a very dangerous and scary storm heading directly for us. The wind gusts were up to 100 mph, and they were warning that this was enough to topple trees and blow out windows. They mentioned our little town by name. To understand why this is significant, you should know that we're so small that we don't have a mayor, our own police, or anything. The population is 1,859, and our size is 1.37 sq miles. It's a pretty tiny community. We're right in between two larger towns and most people use those as a reference. When the weather guy says our name and to get to the basement, we got.
Luckily, the severe northern edge of this system fell apart as it hit our area. This storm was bad. It even hit the national wires with its impact on Chicago and Michigan City. We were very, very lucky.
Note: The picture has nothing to do with the post. It's another one from our camping trip. It's just there 'cause she's so darn cute!

Wow! It sure sounds like you guys had a scare last night. Glad to hear that all is well.
BTW, the picture of Sera is great!
You guys sure do get some pretty wicked storms! I remember one storm in which the lightning was so bright that it turned the streetlamps off.
Had any more ice storms since I was there? That was crazy!
I'm glad you guys are okay!
When we were in the basement, Jim and I commented that the only other time someone had to go to the basement in a storm was when you were home alone. We've never had an icestorm like the one we had when you were here either. Our winters have been fairly mild, though last winter we did get snowed in for a few days. We actually had to call someone to plow us out!
